Cleanings and Exams for Children and Adults
We enjoy treating many families in our practice. We recommend that your child come in for their first dental
appointment at age three. We will check and clean their teeth and may take x-rays if needed. We will provide them
with good brushing techniques and encourage good nutrition.
Periodontal (Gum) Therapy
Periodontal (gum) disease is the most common cause of tooth loss in adults and this is generally an infection caused
by plaque. Plaque is a sticky film of bacteria and food that forms on teeth and must be removed daily to prevent
cavities and gum disease. If the plaque (which hardens to calculous and tarter) is not removed, pockets form around
the teeth and the gums become swollen and irritated.
In our office we encourage regular check ups and will detect the presence of periodontal disease. Treatments in our
office include non surgical therapy called scaling and root planing (deep cleanings), as well as surgical therapies
known as gingivectomies and flap surgeries.
It is very important that we detect gum disease which can contribute to heart disease and many other health problems.
